The United States and the UK announced that a trade agreement has been signed by the two countries. The announcement was made by US President Donald Trump on Thursday evening Indian time.

However, nothing concrete was announced between the two countries and that the final details of the deal are yet to be fleshed out.

According to the broader contours of the deal, the 10% blanket tariffs on all UK imports remains.

For automobile imports, the imports of up to 1 lakh vehicles will have a 10% tariff, while additional imports will still have a 25% tariff rate, which is currently applicable to all auto imports.

Before the 25% tariff imposition, the standard US import duty for passenger vehicles stood at 2.5%, which was then turned into 25% on April 2.

If that is taken into consideration, the 10% tariff rate is still lower. However, in absolute terms, the tariff will go up from 2.5% earlier to 10%. More so, because Jaguar Land Rover, the subsidiary of Tata Motors, had paused shipments to the US in April.

According to official information, JLR had shipped 1.02 lakh vehicles to the US in 2024.

Shares of Tata Motors had ended off the highs of the day on Thursday, closing exactly at the flat line, at ₹680.4. Samvadhana Motherson's shares ended at the day's low on Thursday at ₹140.22.
