In a dramatic incident at Chicago Midway Airport, a Southwest Airlines flight narrowly avoided a collision with a private jet on the runway on Tuesday. The Southwest Airlines flight, which was attempting to land, executed a swift go-around, thereby averting a potential collision.
Southwest Flight 2504 safely landed at the airport after steering clear of the other aircraft on the runway, the airline confirmed.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the business jet entered the runway without authorisation.
The Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800, arriving from Omaha, was on its final approach to land on Runway 31C when the flight crew spotted a Challenger 350 private jet crossing the same runway. Acting swiftly, the crew executed a go-around manoeuvre, preventing a potential collision, officials said.
The quick response by the pilots ensured that both aircraft avoided a catastrophic incident. The FAA has launched a probe into the incident.
