Video: Trump's remarks inaudible at White House event amid press ban

US President Donald Trump’s remarks were barely audible during a White House ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday after major TV networks withdrew from the White House press pool over the administration’s ban on three news outlets.

Trump was seen cutting a ribbon and speaking with construction workers at the unveiling of a new helipad on the White House South Lawn. But as he spoke, the sound of the Marine One overwhelmed his voice in live footage, and his remarks couldn't be heard clearly.

Bianca de la Garza, the host of the conservative outlet, Newsmax, pointed out that there was no microphone at the event because the press pool cameras were absent. “We’re covering it here because we have the cameras,” de la Garza said, while noting that the usual White House pool cameras were not present.

“So there is no microphone because the pool cameras aren’t there. So, maybe, Tim, this is one example of it backfiring just a little bit,” she said, speaking to NewsBusters’s Tim Graham.

“And obviously the ramifications are right here. Can’t hear what the President is saying,” she added.

The unusual coverage came after the five major television networks that make up the White House TV pool suspended pooled coverage of Trump on Monday. The move followed the US President’s decision to bar CNN, MS NOW and Politico from its grounds.
