Utah Governor Spencer Cox was visibly emotional on Friday, addressing the press conference on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, stating how the past 48 hours had pushed him "to the brink" and how Kirk’s words had helped him cope.

"Over the last 48 hours, I have been as angry as I have ever been, as sad as I have ever been, and as anger pushed me to the brink, it was actually Charlie's words that pulled me back. I'd like to share some of those, and specifically, right now, if I could, I need to talk to the young people in our state, in my state, and all across the country," Cox said, his voice breaking at points.

The governor reflected on Kirk’s idea about forgiveness, "These are the words that have helped me. Charlie said, 'When people stop talking, that's when you get violence,'" Cox said.

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive. He added, 'Always forgive your enemies. Nothing annoys them so much," he added.

TYLER ROBINSON ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING CHARLIE KIRK

In the press conference, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said 22-year-old Tyler Robinson had been taken into custody. Cox confirmed the arrest, saying, "We got him," and thanked Robinson’s family for reporting his involvement.

Cox said investigators reviewed video footage and identified Tyler Robinson arriving in a Dodge Challenger vehicle on 10 September.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck while addressing a crowd of over 3,000 at Utah Valley University. He died shortly afterward in hospital. FBI chief Kash Patel said the suspect was caught within 33 hours, crediting the public and media tips for the rapid breakthrough.

"As anger pushed me to the brink, Charlie’s words brought me back. When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence. Young people loved and hated Charlie, but he went into those places anyway," Cox said in response to a reporter’s question, visibly holding back tears.
