It was just another Democrat rally in Michigan until it wasn't. US Vice President and Democrat candidate Kamala Harris made a bizarre request during the rally, so unexpected that it left her supporters momentarily speechless on Monday.
The Democrat nominee stood before a lively crowd in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a clear message: the fight is for democracy, for the voices of the people.
“We are all here because we are fighting for democracy and for the right of people to be heard and seen,” she told the audience.
Vice President Harris, speaking with conviction, emphasised unity over division. “We’re not about the enemy within. We know we are all in this together. That’s what we are fighting for,” she said, to cheers from the crowd.
The crowd erupted in applause, their chants of “Ka-ma-la, Ka-ma-la” echoing through the venue.
Not satisfied with the roaring chants, Kamala pulled the plug by what many on social media called a "cringe" joke that led to the silence piercing through the noise.
Demanding the cheering crowd to "shout out" their names, Harris said, “Now I want each of you to shout your own name. Do that."
