As the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) conducted a closed-door meeting, convened at Pakistan’s request, the members of the council raised tough questions at Islamabad, refusing to accept its “false flag" narrative.

According to sources, the UNSC members brought up the Pahalgam terror attack issue during the meeting and asked Pakistan if LeT was likely to be involved. The council broadly condemned the April 22 attack and called for the need for accountability.

Several members of the council specifically brought up the targeting of tourists in Pahalgam on the basis of their religious faith, sources informed.

The council also expressed concerns over Pakistan’s missile tests and nuclear rhetoric and termed them as “escalatory factors". Reportedly, Pakistan’s efforts to internationalise the situation failed, as the Security Council advised Pakistan to sought the issue bilaterally with India.

Flop Show For Pakistan At UNSC

The UNSC meeting came after Pakistan, currently a non-permanent member of the powerful 15-nation Security Council, requested “closed consultations" on the situation, instead of a televised one.

According to sources, the setback to Pakistan was the result of the Indian government’s efforts to remain in constant touch with member countries of the UNSC. PM Modi spoke to leaders of four out of five Permanent Members of the Security Council.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also spoken with all Council members, except China and Pakistan. In his calls, Jaishankar underlined that “its perpetrators, backers and planners must be brought to justice".

Pakistan Misuses Platform To Spread Lies

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, again misused the UN Security Council platform to bring up the Kashmir issue and spread lies against India. He attempted to divert attention from the Pahalgam terror attack by bringing Kashmir issue and accused India of military build-up and making provocative statements.

Iftikhar also termed India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty as an “act of aggression," and accused India of deliberately attempting to shift global focus away from Islamabad’s role in supporting cross-border terrorism.
