The White House is reportedly preparing for possible changes in US President Donald Trump’s Cabinet as he nears the one-year mark of his current term.

According to multiple people familiar with internal discussions, cited by CNN, no decisions have been finalised yet, but senior officials have been reviewing several departments where tensions or performance issues have emerged in recent months.

So far, Trump’s Cabinet has remained stable, a conscious effort by those around him to avoid repeating the high turnover that marked his first term. However, officials told the broadcaster that some departments could soon see movement, particularly the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Energy.

At DHS, led by Kristi Noem, questions have emerged over internal management and the influence of Corey Lewandowski, a longtime Trump ally who holds a temporary advisory role.

While Trump has repeatedly praised Noem both publicly and privately, several senior White House officials have reportedly grown frustrated with Lewandowski’s increasing influence within the agency.

One person close to the White House told CNN that concerns had been raised about whether Lewandowski’s involvement was contributing to mismanagement.

Lewandowski has reportedly taken an active role in directing personnel changes at DHS, including firing staff, placing employees on leave and reprimanding officials whom he believes are slowing down the administration’s deportation agenda. His assertive style has drawn criticism from some within the administration, though DHS has defended his conduct, saying he holds officials accountable.

According to CNN, Trump held a meeting in September with Noem and Lewandowski to address tensions in the department. The discussion was said to have turned tense, particularly between Trump and Lewandowski, leaving the president irritated. Despite this, Lewandowski has continued in his post, supported by his longstanding personal relationship with Trump.

The US Department of Energy, currently led by former fracking executive Chris Wright, is also viewed as a possible area of change. CNN reported that Wright’s relationship with the White House has cooled in recent months, prompting speculation about whether he may exit the administration in the new year.

Despite the discussions, White House spokespeople have pushed back strongly on talk of turnover. “The cabinet is not changing no matter how much CNN wishes that it would because it thrives off drama," spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said, dismissing reports as media-driven drama.
