Amid the ongoing controversy regarding the position of Karnataka Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who has been staking claim for the top post for the past few weeks, hinted at a secret power pact on Wednesday with a cryptic message that appeared like a veiled dig at the Congress high command who will take the final decision with regard to the matter.

“Word power is World Power. The biggest force in the world is to keep one’s word," the Deputy Chief Minister’s message directed at the party top brass, who, according to his supporters, had reached a power-sharing pact in May 2023, the time when Siddaramaiah was chosen as the Chief Minister of Karnataka post the Congress’s win in the Assembly elections.

“Be it a judge, president or anyone else, including myself, everyone has to walk the talk. Word power is world power. Those standing at the back don’t know the value of the chair. What value and significance the chair holds," Shivakumar added.

“Word power is World Power. The biggest force in the world is to keep one’s word," the message seemed directed at the party top brass, who, according to his supporters, had reached a power-sharing pact in May 2023, when Siddaramaiah rose to the chair after a similar tussle post the Congress’s win in the Assembly elections.

“Be it a judge, president or anyone else, including myself, everyone has to walk the talk. Word power is world power. Those standing at the back don’t know the value of the chair. What value and significance the chair holds," Shivakumar added.

“Instead of pulling a vacant chair and sitting, they are standing. While all senior leaders are seated, they are standing by refusing to sit. You won’t get any chair, you will be left behind".

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah has refused to budge and said that he will remain the Chief Minister for the rest of the Assembly’s term.

As per the reports, the Shivakumar camp claims that the power-sharing deal was sealed on May 18, 2023, after prolonged discussions involving Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala and MP DK Suresh, Shivakumar’s brother.

It has been learnt that Shivakumar had initially sought the first 2.5 years in office, but Siddaramaiah refused, citing seniority. Following this, Siddaramaiah was given the first half of the term, with Shivakumar slated to take over later.

The power tussle rose in the recent weeks as the deadlines are approaching and the pressure on the High Command seems to have been mounting from both factions.
