Prime Minister Narendra Modi received birthday wishes from several world leaders on Thursday, with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu among those who praised his leadership and his role in strengthening bilateral ties. Modi turned 76 on Thursday.
Leaders from Dominica, the World Health Organisation, Sri Lanka and the Maldives also greeted Modi, highlighting India’s ties with their countries and wishing him good health and success. Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in Vadnagar in Gujarat.
In a message published on the Kremlin website, Putin praised Modi’s standing at home and abroad. “You are rightly enjoying a deep respect from your compatriots and great authority on the global stage. It is impossible to overstate your personal contribution to strengthening the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia,” he said. Putin, who recently visited India for the 18th BRICS Summit, also thanked Modi for the welcome extended to him during the visit. “The talks we held were undoubtedly substantive, frank, and productive. As always, it was a genuine pleasure to talk with you, and our discussions once again demonstrated your extraordinary political wisdom and foresight,” he said. “We will, of course, continue our constructive cooperation on pressing bilateral and international issues for the benefit of our friendly nations,” Putin added.
In a post on X, Meloni said, “Happy birthday to my friend @narendramodi, to whom I wish health, energy, and success. Italy and India continue to strengthen their deep bond of friendship, building together a future of cooperation and prosperity for our Nations.” Netanyahu also greeted Modi and said, “Happy birthday, Narendra! Prime Minister @narendramodi. Your leadership has transformed India into a world power. Together, we have built an unprecedented partnership between our two great democracies.” He added that the friendship between Israel and India has never been stronger and that “together we will take it to even greater heights”. “I wish you many more years of leadership, health and fulfilment,” he said.
Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit said on X, “On behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica, I extend warm birthday wishes to Prime Minister @narendramodi. May the year ahead bring you good health and continued strength in service to the people of India.” World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “I wish you many happy returns. Thank you for hosting a successful #BRICS Leaders Summit, for putting health high on the agenda, and for securing strong commitments by BRICS Leaders to #HealthForAll and global health security.” Sri Lanka’s Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa posted, “I wish you good health, happiness and many fulfilling years ahead. Your warmth towards Sri Lanka and your efforts to bring our two countries and our peoples closer have meant much to our enduring friendship. May that friendship continue to grow stronger, and may the bonds between our peoples deepen for generations to come. Have a wonderful birthday, Prime Minister.” Former Maldives presidents Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Mohamed Nasheed also extended birthday wishes to Modi.
The greetings from leaders across countries underlined the message of goodwill for Modi on his 76th birthday, with many of them linking their wishes to India’s growing ties with their nations and to his role in those relationships.
