Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney-led Liberal Party won a fourth consecutive term and staved off a stiff challenge from rival Conservatives under the shadow of US President Donald Trump's tariff threats and his remarks on making the neighbouring country the 51st US state. Carney took over the top job three months ago after Justin Trudeau resigned amid a housing and inflation crisis. The Liberals won 169 seats, three short of a majority, while the Conservatives secured 144. The New Democratic Party (NDP), which was led by pro-Khalistan leader Jagmeet Singh, suffered massive losses, with Singh himself losing his seat, marking a pivotal moment in Canadian politics.
