A bruised Elon Musk was seen with a black eye at a White House appearance on Friday with Donald Trump, marking the end of his formal role in the administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
When asked about the visible bruise around his right eye, Musk humorously explained that it was caused by his 5-year-old son, X Æ A-12 (or “Lil X"), during a playful interaction.
The Tesla boss said, “I was horsing around with little X, and I said, ‘Go ahead, punch me in the face,’ and he did." He added that he didn’t feel much at the time, but the bruise appeared later.
Trump then interjected. “That was X that did that? …X could do it. If you knew X."
Initially asked about the bruise, Musk brushed it off with his usual cryptic humour. “I wasn’t anywhere near France," he quipped, referencing a recent incident where President Emmanuel Macron’s wife shoved him in the face.
This appearance occurred during a press conference in the Oval Office, where Trump praised Musk’s work with DOGE and presented him with a golden key, despite earlier reports of some friction between them over certain policies.
The president said that Musk “is not really leaving" and will occasionally be back at the White House because Doge is his “baby".
Musk’s designated role as a special government employee only allowed him to work a federal job for 130 days in a calendar year.
The incident came hours after a New York Times report made explosive claims about the billionaire’s alleged drug use. It said Musk confided in others that he was using ketamine so frequently that it was affecting his bladder. Sources claimed that Musk regularly took Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms and carried a box of daily medications, including Adderall, as he crisscrossed the country campaigning for Trump.
