Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday took a sharp jibe at Leader of Opposition and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rabri Devi in the state’s Legislative Council, following a protest over the issue of reservation.

The heated confrontation came after RJD legislators, dressed in green T-shirts, staged a demonstration inside and outside the Assembly. They were demanding that the 65 per cent reservation policy be included in the Ninth Schedule of the Indian Constitution to shield it from judicial review.

Referring to Devi’s tenure as Chief Minister, Kumar remarked, “It is her husband’s party, what does she care? When her husband (Lalu Prasad) was removed from the Chief Minister’s post, she was made CM. Does this mean anything? What does she even do? Have you seen anything like this in any other party?"

The protest, which saw RJD members chanting slogans in support of increased reservation, was met with harsh criticism from Kumar, who dismissed it as “bogus" and “meaningless."

Standing in the House, Kumar angrily remarked, “All this is bogus. It has no meaning. Have you seen anything like this anywhere in the country?"

He also criticised the RJD, saying, “There is no other party in the country that behaves like this."
