Mehdi Hasan slammed Eric Trump after he made sweeping and controversial claims about NYC mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani during a Fox News interview.

British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan slammed Eric Trump on social media after the US President’s son delivered an on-air tirade against New York City’s mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, during a Fox News interview.
“Zohran Mamdani is Indian. This is why they call Eric the dumbest of the dumb sons," Hassan posted on X after Eric Trump launched a sweeping attack on Mamdani, calling him a “socialist" and “communist," and levelling extraordinary accusations.
“There’s no place in the world that could compete against New York City, right? No one could compete against New York City, and yet, you know, then you have a socialist, you have a, you know, communist, however you want to label him, who wants to nationalise grocery stores and wants to arrest Netanyahu," Eric Trump said of Mamdani.
“…You know, hates the Jewish people, hates the Indian population, you know, wants to defund the law enforcement, and you know what that’s going to cause. It’s so sad," he added.
He went on to argue that leaders should be focused on “safe streets, clean streets, reasonable taxes."
Eric Trump’s remarks come at a particularly charged moment in US politics, as Mamdani is set to meet President Donald Trump at the Oval Office on Friday.
On Wednesday, the President announced the meeting on Truth Social, writing,
“Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!"
Mamdani had repeatedly criticised Trump, calling him a danger to democracy and vowing that he alone had the “backbone" to take him on.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also weighed in, reinforcing the “communist" label used by Trump.
She said, “It speaks volumes that tomorrow we have a Communist coming to the White House, because that’s who the Democrat Party elected as the Mayor of the largest city in the country."
Leavitt added that Trump is prepared to “meet anyone" if it means addressing the concerns of Americans across political divides.
