A tour bus bound for Pamukkale collided with a truck near the Akhisar toll gates in Manisa on Sunday. The crash killed 11 people, injured 27 and is under investigation.

Eleven people were killed and 27 others injured after a tour bus collided with a truck near the Akhisar toll gates on the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Highway in western Turkey on Sunday, authorities said. The bus was travelling from Bursa towards Izmir and was headed to Pamukkale, which is a popular tourist destination in Denizli province, when the crash occurred in Manisa province.

The Manisa Governor's Office said it received information about the accident at 11.11 am (local time). Emergency services, including ambulances, firefighters, police and rescue teams, were rushed to the scene to assist the victims.

"Health and rescue teams were directed to the scene, and efforts to rescue our citizens affected by the accident were quickly launched," the governor’s office said.

11 DEAD, 27 INJURED IN CRASH

Manisa Governor Vahdettin Ozkan visited the accident site and received a briefing from officials. Ozkan said the bus was carrying 34 passengers and three crew members, while the truck had one driver. The collision killed 11 people and left 27 injured, he said.

Of the injured, 16 were taken to hospitals under the yellow-code classification, nine under the green code and one under the red code, according to the governor. The classification system is used to assess the urgency of medical treatment.

Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci also confirmed the preliminary death toll at 11. He initially reported 26 injured before the governor’s office provided the updated figure of 27.

INVESTIGATION UNDER WAY

Rescue and emergency response operations involved Trkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), health services, firefighters, police and gendarmerie personnel. Ozkan said the response was being coordinated among the relevant agencies, while work at the crash site continued under the supervision of the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Authorities have not provided further details about the cause of the collision. The investigation is continuing.
