An Indian-origin man died after being assaulted by a group of minors outside a park in England. Now, a 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of 80-year-old British-Indian, Bhim Kohli. The boy is in custody and will appear in Leicester Youth Court on September 5.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Bhim Kohli, an 80-year-old Indian-origin grandfather who was assaulted while walking his dog in Franklin Park, in eastern England. Kohli succumbed to his injuries on September 2, a day after the attack.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Leicester Youth Court at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Thursday (September 5).

Leicestershire Police had launched a murder investigation after Kohli, a resident of Leicester, was attacked around 6.30 pm on September 1 near the park’s entrance.

Kohli was rushed to the hospital but died the following day. A post-mortem examination confirmed that he died from a neck injury, with further tests pending.

Earlier, in connection with the case, five minors were arrested, including the 14-year-old boy and a girl of the same age, as well as two 12-year-old girls and a 12-year-old boy.

The 14-year-old boy was kept in police custody, while the other four minors have been released without further action.

Leicestershire Police is investigating the reason behind the assault.

Kohli’s daughter told LeicestershireLive that her father was just moments away from the safety of his home when he was attacked.
