Panic spread outside a mosque in Smethwick, near Birmingham, after an 18-year-old teen was stabbed to death. In the brutal attack that took place on Friday evening, two others got injured and were rushed to the hospital. The 18-year-old boy was found in critical condition and died at the scene.

The incident took place outside Jamia Masjid in Oldbury Road in Smethwick, near Birmingham. The police were informed at around 9 pm (local time). The other two men, aged 19 and 22, were also injured and are now reported to be out of danger.

Several footage of the site are being shared on social media and several ambulances along with police vehicles can be seen deployed outside the mosque. Part of the road that was closed on Friday night was opened on Saturday morning.

As per a report by BirminghamLive, West Midlands Police has begun the investigation and the detectives are trying to obtain CCTV footage from businesses surrounding Jamia Masjid.

Police Identifies The Victim

The report also states that the victim has been identified as Zeshan Afzal. In a statement, West Midlands Police said, “We’ll be doing everything we can to support his family at this terrible time."

One of the witnesses recounted the incident and told reporters: "We were inside for prayer, the Taraweeh Namaz, when we came out and saw all the people here. It was all men, ambulances and police. The police said ‘go back inside the mosque’. They sealed it off and the police said we could walk out but we couldn’t get our cars. It was roughly around 9.40pm."

“We were very panicked, we were shocked. I walked home last night. I came here today and they (the police) said to give my mobile number and when everything is open, they would let me know."

The police are also urging the witnesses to come forward by calling 101 and quoting log number 4896 of 20 February. Or, alternatively, anyone with any information is being asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
