Gmail hacking threats have forced Google to issue a major warning that affects over 2.5 billion users on the mailing platform. There is a hacking group that has been on the prowl over the last few years and has successfully managed to break its victims by accessing their digital accounts. Their mode of attack is a phishing campaign, which as we know, is directly linked to your mail IDs and Gmail becomes a prime target for such attacks.

The group called ShinyHunters has been involved in some high-profile data breaches and Google is now warning its users about the ill-effects of letting attacks like these damage their digital footprint.

Gmail Attacking Risk: What Google Has Said

Google has been busy alerting the possible affected Gmail users about these exploits and asked them to update their passwords as well as use two-factor security methods right away. These authentication steps basically help you from being hacked, even if they have access to your passwords.

They will simply send the victims an email, with an urgent action needed or something that gets them excited. Once they grab the attention, they can get them to click on a link or an attachment to get a route inside the system.

The account will need an additional step of verification which can be done via an SMS on the registered mobile number or using any Authenticator app that creates dynamic one-time passcode.

While the company has alerted millions of its users, it is also giving a word of caution to all the Gmail users, asking them to deploy these methods to keep their digital IDs for banks, shopping platforms and more secure.

Gmail users are being warned about new sophisticated AI-powered threats that can be used to control their account, which means all your digital existence. Google is sharing some worrying details about how AI is becoming their favourite weapon especially when their work becomes easy and their targets are there to dupe.

These attacks may sound advanced but the mode is as simple as making a call to the individual, disguised as a Google support executive which even includes a follow-up mail so that people don’t get suspicious.
