Gemini is finally coming to Google's smart home devices

First it was Amazon and now Google has unleashed its Gemini-powered smart speakers this month that will be available in early 2026. The new Google Home Speaker is bringing the new AI assistant out of the box and lets you have natural conversations with the AI chatbot through the speaker, something that many did with Google Assistant earlier.

The biggest change because of Gemini on the smart speaker is that you don’t need to repeat the wake word every time you want to chat with Gemini AI and this is where the conversation flows. Amazon’s Alexa+ is also headed in the same direction and you will see it on display with the latest Echo Dot Max and Studio speakers from the company.

Google Home Speaker With Gemini: What To Expect

Gemini for smart speakers is coming as an early access version this month and will be the replacement for the aging Google Assistant which is not surprising. However, Google did share an interesting news about the Gemini for Home version which will be free and come in paid version as well.

It is likely that Google will reserve the Gemini Live feature for Home devices to be part of a premium subscription and keep everything else available with the free tier. We still don’t know how much the Gemini Home paid version will cost but that will become clear in the next few months.

Coming to the new Home Speaker, Google says it offers 360-degree audio to fill any space. You can pair two of these speakers with the Google TV streamer to get you surround-sound experience. The build quality is reminiscent of the Nest series but the shape has been redesigned for better audio support and the LED lights up when Gemini starts talking.

Google is bringing the Home Speaker to the US, Canada, Australia, Europe but India is not mentioned in the list. Does this mean the Gemini-based speaker will never launch in the country, not entirely true but Google could bide its time before the product and the Gemini for Home version is fully optimised to work in other regions where the language demands will be higher.
