Nearly 400 people have so far been arrested as immigration raid protests flared up in Los Angeles over the past week, especially after President Donald Trump deployed Guard troops and Marines across the city.

According to the Associated Press, there have been a handful of more serious charges, including assault against police officers and possession of a Molotov cocktail and a gun.

The development came even after a night curfew was imposed in the city.

However, officers are chasing groups of protestors through the streets, seemingly trying to push them further from the federal buildings in the area.

Trump has activated more than 4,000 Guard members and 700 Marines to quell protests over immigration enforcement, which, according to ABC News, was higher than those deployed in Iraq and Syria by Washington.

At the civic centre in Los Angeles, a demonstration turned chaotic, as police in riot gear, many on horseback, charged at a group, striking them with wooden rods and pushing them out of a park in front of City Hall.

Officers also fired crowd control projectiles, striking at least one young woman, who writhed in pain on the ground as she bled from her hip.

Minutes earlier, some protesters lit fireworks as they approached the federal building, the site of numerous showdowns in recent nights.

Simultaneously, a larger portion of the protest was in the midst of a dance party.

CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR SUES TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

As the protests spread to more parts of the United States, California Governor Gavin Newsom sued the Trump administration in an effort to stop the military from helping immigration agents in Los Angeles.

The administration’s official response on Wednesday stated that President Donald Trump is “exercising his lawful statutory and constitutional power to ensure that federal personnel and facilities are protected."

The lawsuit argues that the deployment of troops trampled on the state’s sovereignty and pushes for a restraining order.

In the Trump administration’s response, it called this “unprecedented," saying, “It would be constitutionally anathema. And it would be dangerous."

A judge has set a hearing for Thursday.
