An Indian-origin woman who was eight months pregnant died after being struck during a two-car collision in Sydney’s Hornsby suburb.

“Any serious crash is very confronting. This is a terrible, terrible story."

Neither driver suffered injuries, though both were taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing, media reports stated.
Police arrested the 19-year-old at a home in Wahroonga shortly after midnight. He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a fetus, death of a pregnant woman.
In the days since the tragedy, tributes have been placed at the crash site, including flowers and handwritten notes.
The grief has been particularly acute within Sydney’s Indian community, which shared a widely circulated social media statement mourning Samanvitha and her unborn child.
“A young life, a mother, and an unborn baby, gone far too soon," the post read, calling the family’s loss “unimaginable" and expressing solidarity with her husband and child.
“A family shattered. A community heartbroken," it mentioned.
