Greta Thunberg was seen boarding a flight to France on Tuesday morning, after being deported from Israel alongside other pro-Palestinian activists. The Swedish climate campaigner was among 12 foreign nationals on board a Gaza-bound aid boat that was intercepted by Israeli forces in the Mediterranean on Monday.
According to the Israeli foreign ministry, Thunberg agreed to deportation and departed from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport. However, tensions remain, as five out of six French activists detained with her refused to sign deportation orders and are expected to appear before an Israeli judicial authority.
The activists had attempted to sail to Gaza aboard the Madleen, a yacht carrying what they described as a “symbolic" amount of humanitarian aid, in defiance of Israel’s long-standing naval blockade. Israeli authorities intercepted the vessel and later dismissed the voyage as a “selfie yacht" stunt aimed at drawing media attention rather than delivering meaningful relief.

“Our consul was able to meet with the six French nationals arrested by the Israeli authorities last night. Their relatives have been contacted. One of them has agreed to voluntary departure and is expected to return today. The other five will be subject to a forced expulsion process," wrote Jean Noel, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
One of the French nationals detained by Israel on Monday is Rima Hassan, a Member of the European Parliament.
“Over the last days and hours, the President of the European Parliament has been in constant contact with the Israeli authorities… to ensure the safety and security of the Member of the European Parliament, Rima Hassan, who was one of the people aboard the boat Madleen and all those accompanying her," Delphine Colard, a spokesperson for the European Parliament said on Monday.
Israel’s foreign ministry had said earlier that anyone who refused to sign deportation documents and leave Israel would be brought before judicial authorities to authorize their deportation.
