Award-winning music composer AR Rahman has recorded a 30-minute performance video in support of US Vice President Kamala Harris. The performance is expected to give a significant boost to her presidential campaign ahead of the November 5 US elections.

Rahman, 57, is the first major South Asian artist to endorse Kamala Harris for the US presidency.

“With this performance, AR Rahman has added his voice to a chorus of leaders and artists who are standing up for progress and representation in America,” said Shekar Narasimhan, chairman of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Victory Fund.

He emphasised that this is more than just a musical event. “It’s a call to action for our communities to engage and vote for the future we want to see,” Narasimhan said.

The AAPI Victory Fund, which supports Harris's 2024 presidential campaign, announced the performance as a significant endorsement.

The performance will be broadcast on AAPI Victory Fund’s YouTube channel on October 13 at 8 pm ET (October 14, 5:30 am IST). It will also air on major South Asian networks like AVS and TV Asia.

The 30-minute show will feature some of Rahman’s most popular songs, intertwined with messages about Kamala Harris’s candidacy and her dedication to the AAPI community, news agency PTI reported while citing a press release.

A teaser video featuring Rahman and Indiaspora Founder MR Rangaswami has already been released on YouTube, giving audiences a glimpse of the upcoming performance.
