The memory shortage issues are starting to show their deeper impact on the industry and brands like Asus could be forced to realign their product prices to meet their demand and keep the business going. You’ve read people losing jobs because of the AI revolution but another big scare has come about in recent months with companies like HP who have already warned about the imminent price increase across products.

The company CEO was quoted saying the DDR5 RAM prices have gone up by a staggering 200 percent in recent months, and its impact will be felt in the market in the next 3 to 6 months once the existing stocks are over. It seems Asus is proving those estimates right but somehow decides to act on the memory shortage well before the given timeline.

Asus PC Price Hike News: What We Know

The news about Asus planning to increase prices of its PCs has come via TrendForce which has cited industry sources with a note that confirms the imminent changes. It even claims Asus will be going ahead with the price hikes from January 5, 2026 and this will be applied on select products.

The inevitable price hike is caused by the heavy demand for memory chips that keep the AI data centres running, and that demand means manufacturers have to offset the industry demand to keep their businesses running.

Asus is unlikely to be the first and the last brand to make this decision and consumers will eventually have to bear the cost or consider delaying the upgrade for a while. We are seeing the phone prices go up in the last few weeks, albeit by up to Rs 2,000 in most cases. So it will be intriguing to see how PC makers decide to pass on the higher memory costs to its consumers.

The biggest impact because of the memory prices could be felt in the budget PC segment, where people with limited money will either have to compromise on quality and performance or spend a little more than they would have done today. We also expect the premium AI laptop/PC market to see a definite price revision, which is going to make them even more expensive for buyers.
