Bangladesh polls: BNP on course to win if polls are free and fair, says Mahdi Amin

Bangladesh has commenced voting in its historic 13th parliamentary elections, marking the first major polls since the 2024 regime change. Mahdi Amin, spokesperson for the Bangladesh ist Party (BNP) Election Steering Committee and adviser to the party chairman, expressed high confidence in a victory for the BNP. He stated, 'BNP being the largest party, most popular political party, we believe if it's a free, fair and credible elections, we are on course to win.' Amin highlighted the massive enthusiasm among voters, noting that for the first time in 18 years, citizens feel they can truly express themselves and choose their representatives. However, he also reported sporadic incidents of violence and attempts by opposition groups to capture polling centers. Despite these concerns, Amin reaffirmed the party's trust in the interim government and the Election Commission to maintain electoral integrity. Security has been significantly bolstered across 42,000 polling stations with the deployment of the army, navy, and border guards to ensure a peaceful voting process for the 12 crore eligible voters.
