PC Lydia Ward said she was "absolutely terrified" after being punched in the face during an attempt to arrest a man suspected of assault

Bodycam footage has emerged showing the moment a female police officer was left bleeding, crying, and terrified following a violent brawl at Manchester Airport last year.
PC Lydia Ward said she was “absolutely terrified" after being punched in the face during an attempt to arrest a man suspected of assault. The incident took place in July 2024 inside a Starbucks at Terminal 2 of the airport.
The dramatic video, shown to a jury this week, captures the aftermath of the assault. Blood is seen pouring from PC Ward’s nose as she sobs and is comforted by a colleague. She was later found to have suffered a broken nose.
Giving evidence at Liverpool Crown Court, PC Ward recalled approaching 20-year-old Mohammed Fahir Amaaz with two colleagues after receiving a report that a man matching his description had headbutted a customer. She said they found him at a ticket machine, The Standard reported.
As they tried to arrest him, Amaaz allegedly resisted, and his brother, 26-year-old Muhammad Amaad, is said to have joined in the struggle. A fight broke out between the two men and the officers, which PC Ward described as involving a “high level of violence".

“I was trying to keep hold of Mr Amaaz’s arm and get it behind his back so I could get some cuffs on him," she told the court. She then described how PC Zachary Marsden was either pushed or fell onto nearby seats, and Amaaz began kicking him.
“I tried to grab him off so he could stop kicking PC Marsden. All I remember then is that he turned and he punched me straight in the face," she said. “I can’t really remember where it landed but I know where my injuries were. I remember falling on the floor and everything went black."
She added: “I was terrified to be honest. I was absolutely terrified. I had never experienced that level of violence towards me in my life."
PC Ward also said her radio’s battery had been knocked out during the struggle and no bystanders came to help, instead, many simply filmed the incident on their phones.
Mohammed Fahir Amaaz is charged with assaulting PC Ward and PC Marsden, causing actual bodily harm, as well as assaults on PC Cook and a member of the public, Abdulkareem Ismaeil.
His brother, Muhammad Amaad, is also accused of assaulting PC Marsden. Both men, from Rochdale, have denied all charges. The trial is ongoing.
