A devastating brush fire outbreak ravaged Long Island, New York, on Saturday, forcing residents in the Hamptons to flee and shutting down a major highway as thick smoke blanketed the area, fueled by powerful gusts and parched conditions.

Raging brush fires swept across Long Island, New York, on Saturday, prompting evacuations in the Hamptons and closing a key highway as dense smoke clouds spread for miles, driven by strong winds and dry conditions, sparking worries for residents and first responders.

Videos circulating online captured towering plumes of smoke stretching for miles after brush fires erupted, shutting down a major route to the Hamptons.

In a post on X, Governor Kathy Hochul stated that a state of emergency has been declared as wildfires continue to spread across New York.

“New York State agencies are responding to a brush fire in the Pine Barrens. We are in close communication with local partners on Long Island to coordinate assistance and make sure they have the resources they need to protect their communities," Hochul wrote on X.

She further stated that she has spoken to Suffolk County Executive Edward P. Romaine and has offered any necessary State resources. 

“I am issuing a State of Emergency as Suffolk County fights brush fires in the Pine Barrens. I have spoken to @ExecEdRomaine and offered any necessary State resources. We have @GuardNY helicopters providing air support, and multiple state agencies are on the ground," Governor posted on X.

As of now, the exact extent of the fire’s spread is unknown, and it remains unclear whether the blaze has caused any structural damage.
