Monday afternoon was a special occasion for BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his parents, wife and 10-year-old daughter Rabiya at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg official residence.
In the over 30-minute meeting, pleasantries were exchanged between the Shergill family and the prime minister, but the star of the meeting was Rabiya, who met PM Modi for the first time and was extremely excited to share her story with him.
Honoured to meet Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji along with my family. Cannot describe in words the warmth & respect he extended to my entire family. His ability to connect with the innocence of a child, wisdom of an elder and heart of a young Karyakarta is truly inspiring. PM… pic.twitter.com/zULtPNeY3Z

Rabiya, a student of the British School in Delhi, told the prime minister that she was keen on learning how to swim professionally and was taking classes to learn the skill. “What time do you go for the classes," PM Modi asked her. “5am", replied the 10-year-old, adding that she wanted to become a professional swimmer someday and represent India.
Lauding her efforts and her mission, the prime minister advised her to pursue her dreams without any burden or expectation. “I am very glad to know that you want to represent India on the world stage, but you must follow your passion with a lot of discipline," the PM told her as he playfully held her ear. PM Modi also asked her how she would justify her absence in school that day. “I will tell them the truth that I came to see you. I will tell my friends what it was like meeting you," she said, leaving the room in splits.
Known for his bond with children and the ability to strike a chord with them, the prime minister joked: “Every time your parents scold you or trouble you, you can always dial my number and complain."
PM Modi also had a conversation about Punjab with the family and a special conversation about Pashmina shawls. The Shergill family told the prime minister how artisans appreciated his government’s Vishwakarma Scheme.
At the end of the conversation, several gifts were brought for the child and she picked the chocolates to take home. “Eat as many chocolates as you want. But remember, you have to work towards your passion," the prime minister said in his parting words to the family.
Jaiveer Shergill joined the BJP in 2022 from the Congress. Apart from being the national spokesperson of the party, he is also a practising Supreme Court lawyer.
