'Can't Believe He Killed Himself Before...': Elon Musk Taunts Trump Again Over Epstein Files

Elon Musk, an ally-turned-rival of Trump, has repeatedly criticised the administration for failing to release the Epstein lives amid a rare split in the president's MAGA base.

Tech mogul Elon Musk once again taunted US President Donald Trump over the release of files related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, saying he can’t believe Epstein killed himself before realising it was a “hoax".

Musk sarcastically responded to Trump calling the Epstein files a “big hoax" as the US president faces a serious split in his loyal right-wing base over allegations that his administration is covering up details of Epstein’s crimes to protect rich and powerful figures.

“Wow I can’t believe Epstein killed himself before realizing it was all a hoax," Musk said on X. In previous posts, Musk questioned where the evidence against Epstein was, and called Trump’s “hoax" comment a cover-up of the scandal.

Notably, Musk was once a staunch ally of Trump and briefly led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), before they parted ways over a huge public spat over the White House’s tax cut and spending bill.

Musk said the Trump administration had not released the Epstein files because the President’s name was mentioned in them, and promised that his newly-founded America Party would release the files as soon as possible.

Trump Under Pressure

Meanwhile, Trump came under further scrutiny after a US federal prosecutor, who handled Epstein’s case and the daughter of a prominent Trump critic, was abruptly fired. Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI director and Trump critic James Comey, was dismissed from his position as assistant US attorney in New York, according to US media reports.

Maurene Comey was among the prosecutors who handled the case involving Epstein and also prosecuted Ghislaine Maxwell, the only former Epstein associate who has been criminally charged in connection with his activities.

The growing pressure on Trump from his MAGA base came after he previously campaigned on exposing Epstein’s network, but later appeared to downplay the issue. Trump has slammed his own supporters and urged them to stop their obsession with the files.

“It’s all been a big hoax, it’s perpetrated by the Democrats. And some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net and so they try and do the Democrats’ work," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Epstein, a disgraced financier, died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His case remains a controversial topic, with many Trump supporters demanding public release of all documents linked to him.

In February, Attorney General Pam Bondi said Epstein’s client list was “sitting on my desk right now", but later walked back her comments, telling reporters that she was referring to the entire Epstein “file" along with other files pertaining to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr, prompting furious backlash from Trump supporters.
