The United States designating The Resistance Front as a foreign terrorist organisation holds significant legal consequences, including financial sanctions, immigration restrictions, and other penalties on the group.
The TRF, a proxy of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was behind the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists on April 22 this year.
Here’s an understanding of the consequences of the TRF being placed on the FTO list.
Under financial restrictions, persons and entities from the United States would be prohibited from providing material support to the designated organisation.
Under immigration restrictions, members and supporters of the organisation would be denied entry to the United States.
The organisation would also face restrictions in terms of defence exports, sales, control over exports of dual-use items, and more.
