Indian-origin Canadian MP Chandra Arya raised concerns over the increasing attacks on journalists reporting against Khalistan groups in the country, highlighting several incidents that have taken place over the past few years.
The Canadian MP brought this issue to Parliament, stating that Canada is becoming a place where the nexus between Khalistan groups and gangsters is flourishing.

Arya also highlighted the attack on Rishi Nagar, a radio editor at Red FM Calgary, which was first reported by CNN-News18.
Nagar has been critical of certain actions by Khalistani groups and faced an attack from a group of unidentified youths linked to these factions. The incident took place last month while Nagar was heading to the Rio Banquet Hall, and he sustained injuries during the attack.
He also told the House about the March 2023 assault on Sameer Kaushal from Radio AM600 in Richmond, BC, who was attacked for covering a Khalistan protest. In February 2022, another Brampton radio host Deepak Punj was also assaulted in his studio for criticising Khalistan-related violence.
Additionally, Arya mentioned investigative journalist Mocha Bezirgan, who has received death threats for his reporting on Khalistani extremism. He noted that there are many more attacks taking place in the Greater Toronto Area and across Canada by Khalistani extremists.
“I call on law enforcement agencies to take notice of Khalistani extremism with the seriousness it deserves. It must be dealt with firmly before it is too late,” the Canadian MP told Parliament.
Speaking to CNN-News18, a top intelligence source stated that this is a strong statement by the Canadian MP in Parliament against Khalistani extremists.
“These attacks are happening just because someone is criticising them for taking wrong steps. Extremist groups like Sikh for Justice is responsible for these attacks and taking this to wrong direction,” the source said.
Furthermore, MP Arya’s remarks suggest that the Trudeau government is not taking action on previous cases, the source said.
