Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury alleges USAID and Yunus-led interim government, backed by Clinton family, orchestrated the 2024 ouster of Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh for regime change.

Former Bangladesh minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury has alleged a nexus between USAID and the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in Dhaka. Speaking to Russia Today earlier this week, Chowdhury claimed that the US Agency for Development (USAID) played a role in the unrest that led to the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024.
USAID, the humanitarian and development arm of the U.S. government, was recently dissolved by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Elon Musk’s leadership in July. Its foreign assistance responsibilities are now handled by the U.S State Department.
“Certain actions of some NGOs, especially from the US—I mean USAID, to name one, or the Republican Institute—were directed against our government for a while, since 2018," Chowdhury said.
The former minister alleged that the 2024 uprising was a “carefully planned" movement backed by Western interests and claimed that the Yunus regime and the Clinton family share a “long history."
Chowdhury cited former US President Bill Clinton’s long-standing support for Yunus, recalling how Clinton once said the Grameen Bank founder “should have long ago won the Nobel Prize." In 2024, Yunus was invited to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting, where he was publicly welcomed by the former president.
According to Chowdhury, this association reflects a deeper attempt by the Clinton Foundation and Yunus to push for regime change in Bangladesh under the guise of promoting democracy and development.
