Nothing's sub-brand has launched its new budget TWS earbuds that has a unique functional feature which you didn't know you wanted.

Nothing made a sedate start in the market last year but 2024 has been anything but light. The company’s CMF catalogue now has two-gen products and its first smartphone as well. The CMF Buds Pro 2 looks to build on the promise of the Buds Pro and appeal to the budget-conscious audience with its unique music traits and design spunk. CMF Buds Pro 2 fits into the needs of most users in the segment with its price tag of Rs 4,299 and focus on those who like the bassy input.

The charging case is more useful than before and the noise cancellation level has been upgraded. So, does the Buds Pro 2 enter into your reckoning if you want a pocket-friendly but effective TWS earbuds?

Design And Function

CMF has taken the design of the Buds Pro and taken it one step further by making the rotating dial functional. The rotating dial now has two marks which essentially helps you control the volume, music playback and even activate ANC by long-pressing the button.

Although we feel the dial can easily go rolling inside your loose pockets.

The case is marginally smaller than the Buds Pro which makes it less obtrusive in the pocket. We have seen a few TWS earbuds to get a display on the charging case but for the price the CMF Buds Pro 2 manages to stand out with this customisable addition.

Having said that, we would like the Buds Pro 3 version to come with a bigger LED unit which tells you the battery status. You get the same stem design for the buds which feels slightly lighter compared to its predecessor. They fit nicely into the ear and we found them comfortable to wear for watching videos, listening to podcasts and music for long hours.

How It Sounds And Performs

The Buds Pro 2 gets 11mm drivers with a 6mm tweeter which puts the emphasis on giving you bass output. The sound profile in general is bass heavy which might enthrall most buyers in this segment and even then you have the option to customise the equaliser settings from the compatible Nothing X app.

The ANC levels are varying based on what you really need. The max level does cancel the ambient noise quite well, but the transparency mode fills the vacuum in the ear which is not ideal. You have both adaptive and manual ANC mode options which is a good addition in this price range.

The voice profile from the earbuds is crisp which means you can hear the dialogues or the podcast clearly without any voice muffling. We even tried the earbuds for voice calls and in most cases the listener was able to hear us clearly and we also got nice call reception.

And finally, talking about the battery life of the Buds Pro 2 you get a combined unit of 500mAh that is claimed to last for over 50 hours when the ANC is turned on. During our tests, we found the Buds Pro 2 lasted for a considerable time and we had ANC enabled all the time. Over the course of two weeks, the charging case was only put to charge once.

CMF Buds Pro 2 adds a unique touch to the budget TWS earbuds market with the functional rotating dial. The audio profile is bass heavy which might suit people but the whole package delivers good value. But if you want a more balanced profile the Oppo Enco Air 3 Pro offers a variety within the same range.
