Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stirred a massive political row with his controversial remarks over India’s reply to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, with the BJP and the BRS slamming the comments, claiming that it was an insult to India’s armed forces.

What Revanth Reddy Said?

While campaigning in the Erragadda division of the Jubilee Hills constituency for the upcoming by-elections on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the BJP government at the Centre “lacked the courage to continue bombing Pakistan after it attacked India, but today is seeking votes in Telangana in the name of ‘carpet bombing'".

“Pakistan kicked you from behind, but the BJP govt did not retaliate. But the BJP leaders are warning of carpet bombing in Jubilee Hills. Is this their baap ki jagir?" he said.

BJP Files Complaint, Demands Apology

The remarks gave the BJP fresh ammunition to target the Congress. Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay condemned the Chief Minister’s comments and demanded an unconditional apology.

“Strongly condemn Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s below-the-belt remark on India. He stooped so low, using derogatory language to say that Pakistan kicked us, and India didn’t retaliate. It’s an insult to the armed forces who courageously destroyed terror camps in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. In India, every street echoes with pride for our soldiers’ courage," he said in a post on X.

“Across the world, Operation Sindoor is being hailed – a symbol of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji’s decisive strike against terrorism. Chief Minister must unconditionally apologise to the people of India – and to the brave soldiers who risked their lives for our nation," he added.

BJP MP G Kishan Reddy said the Chief Minister’s remarks “casting doubts" on “surgical strikes" and Operation Sindoor by India’s armed forces are “demeaning" to the Indian armed forces and equivalent to “parroting" Pakistan’s narrative regarding the recent India-Pakistan cross-border conflicts.

“Repeated demeaning of our brave Indian Armed Forces to parroting the lines of an enemy nation–casting doubts on the surgical strikes to counting the strikes of Operation Sindoor–Congress continues to peddle the language and lies of Pakistan. Mr CM, the fact is Pakistan was hit deep inside their territory eliminating terrorists and 11 air bases destroyed," Kishan Reddy said.

Telangana BJP President Ramchander Rao also slammed the remarks on Operation Sindoor and said that the Congress and Pakistan narratives are aligned.

The state unit also filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against Reddy for alleged “objectionable and inflammatory remarks" on Operation Sindoor.

According to the complaint, “Reddy has made statements claiming that “India failed to bomb them (Pakistan)" which is utterly false and deeply insulting to our armed forces".

The complaint submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana accused Reddy of demeaning the “valour and sacrifice of our soldiers", and “demoralize the nation for political gain".

The BJP further alleged that Reddy called the Union Ministers from Telangana “shameless." “These comments are unparliamentary, defamatory, and intended to provoke animosity amongst the voters of the constituency and the public in general," the complaint stated.

Reddy has also been accused to threatening and blackmailing the voters of the constituency, after he allegedly stated that if they did not register their votes for the Congress Party, “he would ensure that several welfare schemes" such as Sanna Biyyam (fine rice), 200 units of free electricity, issuance of ration cards, and free bus travel for women, “would be withdrawn".

The BJP has called his statement out as a “direct violation" of the Model Code of Conduct and Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines. “It amounts to blackmail, coercion, intimidation, and undue influence over voters," the party’s complaint read.

BRS Slams Remarks

BRS working president KT Rama Rao also criticised CM Reddy’s remarks.

“To insult the Indian Army merely for an election rally speech is a new low even by your low standards, Revanth Reddy," KTR said.

It takes immense hardwork, dedication, commitment and love for one’s country to join the armed forces and put lives on the line. We are safe and are able to do politics, have normal lives and live with families because the men in the uniform toil at the border in the most cruel…— KTR (@KTRBRS) November 2, 2025

“This is not a Telangana that gets scared of your threats," KTR declared, in response to the CM’s warnings to voters. “If you try to cancel welfare schemes, the same people of Jubilee Hills will bring down your government. Telangana has seen many dictators rise and fall. You will be no different," he said.

He criticised the Congress party for mocking the emotional moment when Gopinath’s wife, Suneetha, remembered her late husband with tears. “Even tears are being politicised by this shameless Congress government," he said.

The BRS leader alleged that the Congress government has failed to deliver on all its promises. “They said they would give ₹4,000 pensions for women and the elderly, Scooties for girls, and ₹2,500 for youth. Not one promise has been fulfilled," KTR said.

Jubilee Hills Bypoll

By-election to the Jubilee Hills constituency is scheduled to be held on November 11. It was necessitated by the death of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath of the BRS. The opposition party has fielded his wife, Maganti Sunitha.

The BJP has once again given a ticket to Lankala Deepak Reddy.
