New Orleans Terror Attack
The New Year celebrations turned tragic in the US city as an Army veteran drove a pickup truck with an ISIS flag into the crowd, killing 15 people and leaving at least 30 others injured. He opened fire at the police personnel present on the spot but was shot dead in retaliatory firing.
After initial denial, the FBI termed the incident an “act of terrorism" and suspected that the driver did not act alone.
The investigators also discovered multiple IEDs, and two pipe bombs hidden in coolers and wired for remote detonation.
Joe Biden On New Orleans Attack
Outgoing US President Joe Biden said that the FBI is leading an investigation to ascertain “what happened, why it happened, and whether there was any continuing threat to public safety".
“To all the families of those who are killed, to all those who are injured, to all the people of New Orleans who are grieving today, I want you to know I grieve with you. Our nation grieves with you," he said.
Donald Trump Hints At Illegal Immigrant Behind Attack
President-elect Donald Trump described the attack as an “act of pure evil" and linked it to illegal immigration.
“When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, that statement was constantly refuted by Democrats and the Fake News Media, but it turned out to be true," Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday
“The crime rate in our country is at a level that nobody has ever seen before. Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!" Trump added.
