Prime Minister Narendra Modi – the BJP’s mega vote catcher will start 2025 with a bang. He is all set to make his first public address in Delhi in the first week itself amid growing heat over the upcoming assembly elections.
Delhi will still be shrouded in New Year festive cheer, as Modi has his work cut out for the polls, the dates for which are expected to be announced by the Election Commission any day on or after January 6, next week.
He will have a public event on January 3, where he will hand over keys to new flats to slum residents. The central government has built 1,645 new flats for poor families, under the Swabhimaan Awas Yojana in Ashok Vihar.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has constructed the flats under the ‘Where there are slums, there are houses’ scheme. The Swabhimaan Yojana was started for the economically disadvantaged section, which is a core voter base of former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. New flats have been made available under this scheme for those who want to buy a house in Delhi-NCR.
There is no confirmation yet from the Centre on whether the prime minister will be physically present for giving out the keys. But, given that the announcement for the poll dates is not far away, the chance of him seizing the moment cannot be overruled.
Nevertheless, it is speculated that he will also deliver an address on that day. But, this, too, is not confirmed unlike the public address scheduled for January 5.
On January 5, the PM will inaugurate what will be a commuter’s dream – he will reach from Delhi to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh in nearly one hour by using the Namo Bharat Corridor. He will inaugurate the 13-km long regional rapid transit system (RRTS) between New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and Sahibabad in UP. This will be followed by a public meeting in Rohini’s Japanese Park, where he will also lay the foundation stone for a new Metro line.
While most of these are not BJP events, with the election round the corner, all of it will be seen through the prism of politics. So, when he delivers his speech, the party’s Delhi unit is hopeful that it will have enough ingredients for them to launch a political attack on Kejriwal, who is the Aam Adam Party’s CM candidate.
