Delhi Election 2025 LIVE: Atishi, Bhagwant Mann To Visit EC Amid Yamuna Row, BJP Plans Protests

Arvind Kejriwal said Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and her Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann will attend a meeting with the Election Commission at 4 pm over ammonia being mixed in the Yamuna river. He said the Jal Board had acknowledged that ammonia is being mixed in the water.

Earlier, Atishi requested an appointment with the Chief Election Commissioner, saying that ammonia levels in the Yamuna waters coming from Haryana have increased sevenfold. Kejriwal has sparked a political row after he accused the Haryana government of poisoning the Yamuna.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday attacked Arvind Kejriwal for his “poison in Yamuna” allegation, saying it is his old habit to blame others for his missteps. “For 10 years you (AAP) have been in power, you should have cleaned Yamuna,” he told reporters.

“You are saying that dirty water is coming from Haryana, so make a team of international experts and get water quality checked at Sonipat and Okhla. It will become clear who is responsible. Haryana will not clean Delhi’s filth. It was Kejriwal’s job but he has failed in his job,” Vij added.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj escalated the rhetoric against BJP over the stay of ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s stay in India, saying how long will the ruling party “keep feeding biryani to the enemies of the nation”.

“If we are to be blamed for whoever (illegal immigrants) have come to Delhi, they all must have come in the last 10 years as we are in power from the last 10 years only. It’s the BJP government at the centre, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to be blamed, why did they allow them to enter? Why is biryani being fed to the Bangladeshi PM, when so many Bangladeshi illegal immigrants moved to Delhi during her tenure?” he told ANI.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday offered prayers at the Valmiki Temple in the national capital, before interacting with people in the New Delhi constituency. Rahul Gandhi will address two public meetings in Delhi today.

BJP leader Parvesh Verma on Tuesday called for AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal to be arrested for his “poison in Yamuna” remark and said his nomination for the upcoming Assembly election should be cancelled.

Reacting to Kejriwal’s remarks, Verma told ANI, “He is lying. He said Haryana mixed poison in the water. This is a big crime, the Election Commission should take action on this.”

AAP leader Sanjay Singh came out in defence of former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s “poison in Yamuna” remark, saying it is based on a report. “The BJP is a party with a hateful mentality, as we have seen with incidents like breaking water pipelines and filling drains with sandbags,” he said.

Reiterating Kejriwal’s claims, Sanjay Singh said, “They tried to send ammonia-contaminated water from the neighbouring state of Haryana to Delhi.” He also promised to respond to Haryana CM Nayab Saini’s defamation threat.

Haryana Minister Mahipal Dhanda launched a scathing attack on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s “poison in Yamuna” remark, saying the “person with such a useless mindset is sending a wrong message to society that can lead to a civil war”.

Speaking to News18, Dhanda said Kejriwal was working on a script sent by some “international agencies” and is working on a dangerous agenda. “There should be some definite action against him. They are a gang. They cheated on Ramdev and Anna Hazare. They are working against the country,” he said.

BJP Delhi Chief Virendraa Sachdeva criticised AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal for his “poison in Yamuna” remark against the Haryana government, saying he should not forget that it was the same land where he was born.

“Arvind Kejriwal forgets that he was born in the same Haryana, the same land that gave birth to him. Elections are not won by threatening people…They did not clean Yamuna, gave dirty water. To hide their lies and corruption, they are making allegations against (Haryana government),” he told ANI.

Following Arvind Kejriwal’s allegation that Haryana is contaminating the water in Yamuna with “poison”, Haryana Ministers and MLAs will protest against the AAP chief at Panchkula Sector 5, Bela Vista Chowk. Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini will also participate in the protest.

They will stage a protest at around 12 noon.

The Delhi BJP released a new campaign song on Tuesday titled ‘BJP Dil Me BJP Dilli Mein’.

Delhi is all set to go to Assembly polls on February 5 and the results will be out on February 8.

Of the 70 assembly seats set for elections on February 5, a total of 16 are ‘red alert’ constituencies – where three or more candidates have declared criminal cases. The list included high-profile seats of New Delhi, Kalkaji and Jangpura, as per a new report released on Monday.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj raked up the issue of ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s stay in India and asked what is her relation to BJP and why she was given shelter here when hundreds of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants came to India under her regime.

“BJP says the Kejriwal government settled Bangladeshis in Delhi. Kejriwal government is in power since 2015. BJP is in power at the Centre since 2014. Sheikh Hasina’s government was in power in Bangladesh since 2009. So whose government allowed Bangladeshis to infiltrate through the India-Bangladesh border?” Bharadwaj wrote on X.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has requested an appointment with the Chief Election Commissioner. Citing the CEO of the Delhi Jal Board, Atishi highlighted that the ammonia levels in the Yamuna have increased sevenfold.

“Ammonia levels continue to be 6 times above normal in Yamuna waters, at the point it is entering Delhi from Haryana. Such levels are extremely toxic for the human body. This water cannot be treated and supplied to people of Delhi. Otherwise their lives will be at risk,: she wrote.

All BJP MPs from Haryana will hold a joint press conference at 1 pm in response to Arvind Kejriwal’s recent remarks on Yamuna water. Kejriwal alleged that the saffron party is trying to kill people by mixing “poison” in the river, which the BJP vehemently denied.

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini refuted the claims and said it is an old habit of AAP leaders to blame others and run away. Saini further said that Kejriwal should apologise to the public or else he would file a defamation case against him over the fraudulent remarks.

Reacting to Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations on Yamuna water, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi remarked during a press conference that even Pakistan did not make such allegations against India during wartime.

“I can say that this poisonous statement given by Kejriwal on water is definitely shaking the mind of every person in Delhi that to what extent politics is going and this is a question of Delhi’s honour… Such cheap things are being said as part of a deep conspiracy to hide their defeat,” he added.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit slammed Arvind Kejriwal over his “false allegations” related to “poisoning” of the Yamuna river. “Arvind Kejriwal should explain what kind of poison was there (in water). He is lying and still allowed to roam free,” he said.

“If a common man alleges the govt of genocide, he will be in jail the very next day. I am surprised that why no action is being taken against him by Haryana Police or Delhi Police. Where is the election commission? I think either there is an internal alliance between both the parties (AAP and BJP) or these institutions aren’t worried about such issues, even if people get panicked,” he added.

BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri expressed confidence that the party will form the next government after the upcoming Assembly elections in the national capital and his own victory in the Kalkaji constituency, where he is up against Chief Minister Atishi.

“Whoever became a MLA from Kalka Ji, he became the government of Delhi. So, if Kalka Ji is winning, then the BJP government is being formed. I stand by my statistics that the seats of the BJP are going to come between 40 and 52,” he told IANS.

Former Vice President Hamid Ansari on Monday cast his vote in the Delhi Assembly elections using the ‘Vote From Home’ facility introduced by the Election Commission of India (ECI). It allows eligible electors to vote remotely through the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS).

This facility is available for senior citizens above 85 years of age, as well as for disabled people. As of now, 6,399 senior citizens and 1,050 persons with physical disabilities have opted for this facility in Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has accused the BJP of violating the Model Code of Conduct in effect in the national capital by conducting registrations for its proposed welfare schemes, demanding immediate action against BJP leaders and workers.

Atishi said BJP’s actions can influence voters ahead of the February 5 elections and warned that her party will also conduct similar registrations for its welfare schemes if no action is taken within 24 hours.

Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Monday unveiled the party’s manifesto for the Delhi Assembly polls, and vowed to provide free bus rides to male students, free study abroad for SC-ST students, and monthly aid to women among other “guarantees”.

In the manifesto titled “Kejriwal Ki Guarantee”, the AAP supremo listed out 15-point promises that he said he would fulfill if his party manages to retain power in Delhi which is all set for a heated election.
