Delhi New CM Announcement LIVE: Rekha Gupta To Be New Delhi CM, Stakes Claim To Form Government

BJP MLA Rekha Gupta met Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena and staked claim to form Delhi’s new government after she was elected as Delhi BJP legislative party’s leader.

Gupta will take oath as the capital’s chief minister tomorrow (February 20).

Delhi Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta shared a post on X inviting everyone for the swearing-in ceremony and said that a new chapter will of progress will begin in Delhi.

“A new chapter of Delhi’s progress is about to begin. With the ‘Developed Delhi Pledge Ceremony’, we all will together move towards new heights of development in Delhi. Come to Ramlila Maidan and be witness to this historic moment!” Gupta said.

After Rekha Gupta was named as the next chief minister of Delhi, the people in her village Nandgarh, which is located in Jind, Haryana, expressed their happiness over the decision.

“We will welcome her here. She was born in this village, but she studied in Delhi. Her father was a bank employee,” said a villager.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said that Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta will “write a new chapter” in the capital city.

“Many many congratulations to her. Under the leadership of PM Modi, Rekha Gupta will underline a new chapter of Delhi,” Swaraj said.

Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratulated Rekha Gupta on getting elected as Delhi’s next chief minister.

Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also congratulated Gupta.

Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi’s former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated BJP leader Rekha Gupta on getting elected as Delhi’s next chief minister.

“Many congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi. I hope that she will fulfill all the promises made to the people of Delhi. We will support her in every work for the development and welfare of the people of Delhi,” said Kejriwal on X.

Rekha Gupta took to X to express her heartfelt gratitude after she was elected as the new chief minister of Delhi and said that she will take the national capital to new heights.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the top leadership for trusting me and entrusting me with the responsibility of the post of Chief Minister. This trust and support of yours has given me new energy and inspiration. I pledge that I will work with full honesty, integrity and dedication for the welfare, empowerment and overall development of every citizen of Delhi. I am fully committed to this important opportunity to take Delhi to new heights,” said Gupta on X.

AAP leader and Delhi’s former chief minister Atishi hoped that BJP will fullfill all the promises they made in the manifesto after Rekha Gupta was elected as Delhi’s next chief minister.

“I congratulate Rekha Gupta for becoming the CM…I hope that the BJP will fulfil all the promises that they have made to the people of Delhi…I would like to say from the AAP front that our party is always ready to extend our support to the BJP for the development work here…She will be the fourth CM of Delhi, and it is a very good thing that women are showing up in politics with great enthusiasm,” said Atishi.

Rekha Gupta thanked everyone for their support after she got elected as the next chief minister of Delhi. BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that Gupta was elected unanimously.

“I am thankful to PM Modi, JP Nadda, Virendra Sachdeva, Ravi Shankar and OP Dhankar,” said Gupta.

The names proposed for the chief minister’s position were Parvesh, Vijendra Gupta and Satish Upadhyay.

BJP extended its wishes to MLA Rekha Gupta after she was elected as the next chief minister of Delhi.

Rekha Gupta is an old RSS hand who was part of the Sangh’s students wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, and became the DUSU president in the late 1990s.

She was a grass-root leader who rose through the ranks – as a councillor, secretary of BJYM’s Delhi unit, general secretary of Delhi BJP’s Mahila Morcha and a member of the BJP’s Executive, and a first-time MLA. She is 50 years old.

BJP has announced Rekha Gupta as the next chief minister of Delhi. She will be the fourth female chief minister of the capital after Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj and Atishi.

Soon after the announcement, celebrations started outside the residence of Rekha Gupta.

Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva welcomed the party’s central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankar along with election in-charge Baijayant Panda. The observers will announce the name of the Leader of the Delhi Legislature Party.

BJP is holding its Legislature Party Meeting in Delhi’s BJP office in which Delhi’s next chief minister will be elected. The name of the chief minister will be announced soon.

BJP leader Kailash Gahlot reached the party office to attend the Legislature Party meeting.

“It is just a matter of a few minutes now. After a very long time, Delhi will get a CM for a double-engine government…the development that was stopped will start again,” he said. Meanwhile, BJP leader Arvinder Singh Lovely also reached the office.

BJP leader Harish Khurana reached the party office in Delhi and said that the name of the chief minister will be announced in the next one hour.

“Delhi CM will start working from tomorrow under the leadership of PM Modi and BJP. In the next one hour, everything will be clear,” said BJP leader Harish Khurana.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj reached the party office to attend the legislative party meeting.

After reaching, she greeted other party leaders. Meanwhile, leader Shika Rai, who had defeated AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, also reached the Delhi BJP office.

“The party knows how to make the best decision. All of us together will work as a team for Delhi,” said Rai.

Delhi BJP MLAs continue to reach BJP’s Delhi office to take part in the legislative party meeting in which the chief minister’s name will be finalised.

Upon arrival, BJP leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said, “You will get all the information in the next one hour.”

Meanwhile, MLA elect Anil Sharma said, ” We will get to know (CM face) in half an hour. If we could wait for 11 days, let’s wait for half an hour more…I am nowhere in the CM race…whatever decision the party takes, we will all agree.”

BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal showed a victory sign after reaching the office and said, “BJP leadership will soon announce (the name of the new Delhi CM).”

Meanwhile, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said, “Soon, the name will be announced…we will see a good decision…”

BJP leaders Rekha Gupta, Bansuri Swaraj, Manoj Tiwari and Ramvir Bidhuri also reached the Delhi BJP Office to attend the Legislature Party meeting. Rekha Gupta, Shikha Roy, and Bansuri Swaraj have emerged as strong contenders for the chief ministerial position.

Speaking about the meeting, MLA elect and BJP leader Ravinder Singh Negi said, “We will obey what the party organisation decides….”

Delhi BJP MLA Parvesh Verma reached the party office to attend the legislative party meeting.

Parvesh Verma, who had defeated Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, and is one of the top names on the list of candidates for chief ministerial position also left his residence for the Delhi BJP office.

BJP Legislature Party meeting will be held where the decision will be taken about who will be the new chief minister of Delhi.

BJP MLA Vijender Gupta reached at Delhi BJP office to take part in the legislative party meeting for electing the chief minister.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Tarvinder Singh Marwah said, “I am just a party worker, nothing can be more joyous that PM Modi considered me capable to contest the elections.”

BJP leaders Satish Upadhyay, Mohan Singh Bisht, Kartar Tanwar and Ashish Sood also reached the BJP Delhi Office.

As the MLAs reached BJP’s Delhi office to finalise the name of the chief minister, a BJP supporter dressed as AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and spoke about the alleged scams of the former chief minister.

“I have done a lot of development work in my tenures – like liquor scam, DTC scam, Yamuna scam, Sheesh Mahal scam…Modi ji is cleaning the river Yamuna, but I would have done better. Now, I am going to Punjab to make it like London,” said the supporter.

Before the Delhi BJP legislative party meeting, BJP MLA elect Raj Kumar Bhatia said that 48 candidates are contesting for the post of chief minister.

“For us, the most important thing is that our govt is forming after 27 years…48 candidates are there for CM post,” Bhatia said.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat said, “Delhi is going to get a new CM. Soon, the name will be announced. Whoever becomes the CM will work for the people of Delhi under PM Modi’s vision and will fulfil the dreams of the people here. People will remember the BJP CM’s face.”

BJP-winning candidate from Moti Nagar Vidhan Sabha Harish Khurana said that the name of the chief minister will be announced soon.

“A double-engine government is going to be formed in Delhi, and soon, the government will start working. The name of the CM will be announced soon. PM Modi has selected the face for the post. Soon, everybody will know who the CM will be,” said Khurana.

BJP leaders J P Nadda, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh held a meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in the RSS office, as per sources.

The meeting took place before the announcement of Delhi’s next chief minister.

BJP’s central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Om Prakash Dhankar reached the Delhi BJP office. The two will be electing the leader of the Delhi Legislature Party.

NDMC Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal, MLAs Harsh Malhotra, Harish Khurana and Karnail Singh also reached the BJP Delhi office.

Meanwhile, BJP supporters are rejoicing as Delhi BJP MLAs will be electing the legislative party leader. The chief minister will take oath tomorrow.

Speaking before the legislative party meeting, BJP leader Ashok Goyal said that Delhi will now get a double-engine government.

“Today, a double-engine government is going to be formed under the leadership of the BJP…After the formation of the government, Delhi will be free from pollution, and we will see a pace of development,” he said.

Before the legislative party meeting, Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva said that the name of the chief minister would be revealed by 8pm.

“The announcement of the name (of CM) will be announced today evening…We have invited all sections of the society of Delhi (to the Delhi CM oath ceremony),” he said.

Speaking about revealing the name of the new chief minister, he said, “By 8 pm, we will tell you (media)…”

BJP Delhi election in-charge Baijayant Panda, MLA elect MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ashok Goyal have started arriving to attend BJP’s Legislature Party meeting.

In the meeting, the MLAs will elect their Delhi legislature party leader after which BJP’s central observers OP Dhankar and Ravi Shankar Prasad will announce the name of Delhi’s next chief minister at 8 pm today.

A celebratory mood can be seen outside the Delhi BJP office an hour before the name of Delhi’s chief minister will be announced after the BJP Legislature Party meeting.

A BJP worker is seen dancing enthusiastically outside the office. The swearing-in ceremony of the chief minister will be held tomorrow (February 20).

MLA elect and BJP leader Mohan Singh Bisht has said that he could be the new speaker of the Delhi Assembly after the chief minister is announced.

“The party will decide it. It is a fact that a BJP worker will be the (Delhi) CM’s face. The party will assign the responsibility…If I will be (the CM), then I will see what all to be done,” Bisht said to ANI.

He said that if he is chosen the speaker, his “priorities will be smooth conduct of the House and raising important issues of Delhi in the House.”
