Iran’s Supreme Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani on Monday rejected any negotiations with the United States, accusing President Donald Trump of harbouring “delusional fantasies" as tensions between the two nations remain high. Follow Live Updates

“Trump plunged the region into chaos with his ‘delusional fantasies’ and now fears more American troop casualties," Ali Larijani wrote on X, following a wave of US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday said he would “be talking" to Iranian leaders, though he did not specify when the discussions might take place and acknowledged that much of Iran’s leadership had been killed.

“They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk, so I will be talking to them. They should have done it sooner," Trump was quoted as saying by The Atlantic, as US and Israeli forces continued military operations against Iran for a second day. When asked about the timing of the talks, Trump said, “I can’t tell you." He did not clarify with whom he expected to engage.

Referring to Iran’s leadership, which has held intermittent negotiations with the US and Western governments over the years, Trump said “most of those people are gone." “Some of the people we were dealing with are gone, because that was a big — that was a big hit," he was quoted as saying, apparently alluding to the strike that killed Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials.

“They should have done it sooner," he added. “They could have made a deal. They should’ve done it sooner. They played too cute."

In a separate interview, Trump said 48 Iranian leaders had already been killed in the war launched Saturday by the United States and Israel. “Nobody can believe the success we’re having, 48 leaders are gone in one shot. And it’s moving along rapidly," Trump was quoted as saying in an interview with Fox News.
