US President Donald Trump has refused to apologise after briefly sharing a racist video that portrayed former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes, saying he never watched the offensive portion and that a White House staffer was responsible for posting it.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump acknowledged for the first time that he had previewed part of the clip before it went online, even as the White House earlier blamed the post on an internal error.
"I didn’t see the whole thing. I looked at the first part, and it was really about voter fraud in the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is. Then I gave it to the people. Generally, they look at the whole thing. But I guess somebody didn't," Trump said.
When asked about demands from Republicans and others that he apologise, Trump rejected the idea. "I didn't make a mistake. I mean, I look at thousands of things," he said.
