US President Donald Trump will visit the US Open men's final on Sunday. This will be his first return to the Grand Slam since 2015.

A White House spokesperson told The Athletic on condition of anonymity, as they were not allowed to comment publicly. There has not been any statement yet from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) about Trump's visit.

As reported by The New York Times, Trump was last spotted at the Billie Jean King Tennis Centre for the 2015 quarterfinal battle between Serena and Venus Williams. Trump was a frequent visitor to Arthur Ashe Stadium before taking office. He used to frequently view games from his personal suite. He, however, relinquished the suite in 2017, the commencement year of his presidency.

The men's singles championship is set for 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. The competition will take place between the winners of Friday's semifinals, where Carlos Alcaraz vs. Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime. Trump's attendance at such a publicity-studded sporting event will attract both interest and controversy, considering his previous encounters with tennis fans.

Since his re-election, Trump has become a familiar face at major sporting spectacles. He made his first notable public appearance after securing his second term at a UFC event in New York, sharing the spotlight with business leaders like Elon Musk and LIV Golf chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan. His close ties with UFC president Dana White have also set the stage for a mixed martial arts event at the White House on July 4 next year, coinciding with America’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

Trump’s involvement in global sports has also been evident. He went to the FIFA Club World Cup final earlier this year, awarding the trophy to Chelsea, and is expected to join FIFA President Gianni Infantino at December’s World Cup draw in Washington, DC.
