Dow Jones Today | US Stock Market LIVE Updates: US stock futures slipped on Thursday (March 12) as oil prices extended gains on concerns over supply disruptions while the Iran war continued. Futures linked to the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 425 points, or 0.9%. S&P 500 futures declined 0.7%, while Nasdaq 100 futures also traded lower.
Late Wednesday, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the U.S. will release 172 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, with deliveries expected to take about 120 days. The announcement followed President Donald Trump’s remarks in an interview with Cincinnati broadcaster WKRC that he would tap the reserve.
Markets, however, remained under pressure as crude prices continued to rise. West Texas Intermediate futures climbed 6% to around $93 per barrel, while Brent crude also gained 6% to roughly $98 per barrel and briefly touched $100.
