Apple and Google are going to team up to bring the AI-powered version of Siri that will be using the Gemini AI model.

Musk is not pleased about Google's overall dominance in the market
Apple and Google are teaming up to power the new AI version of Siri based on the Gemini AI model and Elon Musk isn’t pleased with the latest development. Musk has slammed the move, calling it “unreasonable concentration of power" for Google which already has other market leading platforms like Android and Chrome. The multi-year deal between the tech giants was confirmed on Monday which gives the search engine giant another big feather in its fledgling AI cap.
He was commenting on the official post from the Google News handle on X. Musk has been quite vocal about the monopolistic scenario in the web segment, where Google has a heavy stranglehold on most applications.
This seems like an unreasonable concentration of power for Google, given that the also have Android and Chrome— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 12, 2026
And Apple’s deal with the company means Gemini will be the backbone on which its much delayed Siri and other Apple AI features will be running on iPhone and other devices.
Unreasonable Benefits For Google?
Musk isn’t the first person to raise the problem and the obvious hold that Google has over the internet. We’ve had search, Android, Chrome leading their respective segments. And Gemini’s quick evolution means that its rivals are happy to sign up for their own AI growth.
Apple and Google have made other reported deals over the years but according to Bloomberg, the Gemini AI collaboration is going to cost around $1 billion per year for the Cupertino-based tech giant as it looks to redeem its stature in the AI race.
Apple’s AI Redemption
The company has already made a deal with OpenAI in 2024 which offered ChatGPT and its features across all the Apple devices. But the Gemini AI deal offers a lot more control to the company.
While Musk’s concerns are justified to some extent, he has own issues to tackle first. Grok AI has been summoned for its apparent neglect of privacy laws and generating sexually explicit images of women and kids that have sparked a massive outrage. The company is being investigated by governments across the world, while some have already banned Grok AI to ensure the safety of its people.
