"Musk poses no threat to democracy. George Soros is," Meloni said.

Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni on Thursday said that Elon Musk’s remarks on X about foreign issues do not pose a threat to democracy, infact, US businessman George Soros is the one who is interfering in the political affairs of other countries.
“Is the problem (with Musk) that he is rich and influential or that he is not left-wing?" she asked reporters.
“Musk poses no threat to democracy. George Soros is," Meloni said during a press conference in Rome.
Following Meloni’s comments, Musk took to X and reacted saying, “And Soros is being defeated."
Notably, Meloni earlier defended Elon Musk’s growing involvement in politics on Thursday and said she had never discussed with him a potential deal to supply secure communications to Italy.
The Italian PM also dismissed concerns about political interference as the US tech billionaire, an ally of President-elect Donald Trump, steps up his comments on European politics on his social media site X.
Meloni reportedly has a good relationship with Musk. Her ties with the Tesla CEO are in the spotlight in Italy as the government weighs up a possible contract relying on Starlink, part of Musk’s SpaceX business.
However, Meloni denied having discussed the issue privately with Musk and said that her government is in talks with several private companies, including Elon Musk’s SpaceX, over the country’s telecoms security system.
