Los Angeles resembled a war zone as drone footage showed crumbled homes and structures due to wildfires which have left at least five dead and nearly 180,000 under evacuation orders. The fires- which erupted in the Pacific Palisades- damaged thousands of buildings as entire blocks were shown burned to ash.
In drone footage, bare frames of homes and yards littered with debris were seen over a destroyed neighbourhood where small patches of fires remained as thick plumes of gray smoke filled the air.
This comes as officials said that worsening winds could impact their response as out of five fires, three were completely uncontained and had already burned nearly 30,000 acres in Los Angeles. Palisades Fire, one of the most destructive natural disasters the city has seen, burned at least 19,059 acres, while the Altadena and Pasadena-based Eaton fire has scorched some 13,690 acres.
Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna said fire-ravaged neighborhoods “look like a bomb was dropped in them." Numerous residents in California remained without power with roughly 863,000 outages in Los Angeles County and another 857,000 or so in neighboring San Bernadino County, as per tracker PowerOutage.us.
