'False, Fabricated': Bangladesh Rejects Reports Of Yunus Showing Map Including India's Northeast

Dhaka clarified that Yunus had actually gifted Pakistani General Sahir Shamshad Mirza a publication titled 'The Art of Triumph'

Dhaka on Monday strongly denied a media report claiming that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus had presented a map showing India’s northeastern region as part of Bangladesh’s flag to a Pakistani military official.

In a statement, the Bangladesh government called the report “completely false and fabricated." It clarified that Yunus had actually gifted Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, a publication titled ‘The Art of Triumph’.

The compilation features colourful graffiti painted by students across Dhaka and other parts of the country during the July uprising.

“The collection is a pictorial documentation of the mass uprising, capturing the historic struggle and sacrifice of students and citizens. The publication was released by the July Memorial Foundation," it added.

According to the statement, the book is a pictorial record of the people’s movement and the sacrifices made by students and citizens. The cover shows a red map of Bangladesh behind Abu Sayed, a martyr of the uprising.

In its clarification, Dhaka noted that because the artwork is based on graffiti, minor distortions in the outline of the country may appear, but claims that it includes parts of India’s northeastern region are “entirely baseless and imaginary."

“A comparative analysis between Bangladesh’s actual map and the one shown in the graffiti clearly indicates that the country’s true geographical outline has been represented almost accurately," it noted.

The Bangladesh government also noted that Yunus had presented ‘The Art of Triumph’ to several world leaders in the past, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, former US President Joe Biden, and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“Previously, Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus had also presented “The Art of Triumph" to several world leaders, including the UN Secretary-General, former U.S. President Joe Biden, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau," the statement concluded.
