'Family Of Champions': Akhilesh Yadav's Brother Does A U-Turn On Divorcing Wife Aparna

From calling her a “family destroyer" and “selfish woman" on social media to now declaring that “all is good", Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav’s brother has done a dramatic U-turn on divorcing his wife.

In the latest, Prateek Yadav – the step-brother of Akhilesh Yadav – has said there is no dispute between him and his wife, Aparna Yadav.

This comes just days after Prateek launched a scathing public attack on Aparna, declaring his immediate intent to divorce her. But, he has now moved to silence rumours of a marital breakdown by projecting a harmonious front and stressing on familial unity.

WHAT IS HE SAYING NOW?

Prateek shared images and videos on social media, claiming that their private disputes have been mutually resolved.

“On January 19, I had a serious dispute with my wife Aparna, following which I made two posts on social media. However, the matter has now been resolved mutually after discussions, and there is no longer any dispute between us," Prateek said in a video alongside Aparna. 

Their reconciliation was further solidified by a photograph of the couple in an embrace, accompanied by the caption: “All is good. Champions are those who crush their personal/professional problems. We are a family of champions," adding in another post, “haters, go to hell."

WHAT DID HE SAY BEFORE?

On January 19, he took to social media to unleash a series of shocking allegations against his wife, describing her as a “family destroyer" and a “selfish woman" and accusing her of being driven solely by a desire for fame and influence. In one particularly vitriolic post, he claimed that he was going to divorce her “as soon as possible".

“She ruined my family ties… I have never seen such a bad soul, and I was unfortunate to get married to her," Prateek said, adding that she was the “biggest liar" and “biggest self-interested person" he had ever met.

Initially, due to the nature of the posts, many speculated that Prateek’s social media accounts had been hacked or he was suffering from a mental health crisis. But he touched upon his state of mind, saying: “Right now, I am in a very bad mental health condition, and she doesn’t bother. That’s because it’s only herself she bothers about."

Back then, Aparna and her family had not responded to the allegations. After his social media posts, however, the couple was in the news due to their high-profile status as a part of the prominent Yadav political dynasty in Uttar Pradesh.

Prateek is the younger son of the late SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhna Yadav. His step-brother, Akhilesh Yadav, is the SP chief now and the opposition leader in the state.

Aparna Yadav, too, is a politician with the BJP. She unsuccessfully contested the 2017 assembly elections on an SP ticket, but crossed the political aisle to join the BJP in March 2022. She was appointed as the vice-chairperson of the State Women’s Commission in September 2024.
