FBI releases photos of person of interest in Charlie Kirk assassination at Utah Valley University, seeking public help as investigation intensifies.

Officials described the suspect as “appearing to be of college age”.

The FBI released photos of a person of interest in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, urging the public to help identify him as the search intensifies for the shooter who opened fire on a Utah campus.

Charlie Kirk, 31, a close ally of US President Donald Trump and founder of the youth conservative group Turning Point USA, was shot dead on Wednesday while addressing thousands at Utah Valley University. The gunman, firing from a nearby rooftop, struck Charlie Kirk once before fleeing by jumping off the building.

Despite multiple leads, the Utah Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the shooter remains unidentified. DPS Commissioner Beau Mason described the suspect as “appearing to be of college age" and noted that he had “blended in well with the campus community." Two people initially detained were later released after being cleared of involvement.

Rifle Recovered, Ammunition With Messages

Investigators believe they have found the weapon used in the shooting. The FBI confirmed it had recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle in a wooded area near Utah Valley University. The firearm, an older .30 calibre hunting rifle, was wrapped in a towel. A spent cartridge was still in the chamber and three unused rounds remained in the magazine.

Officials said the bullets were engraved with phrases linked to transgender and antifascist ideologies. FBI agent Robert Bohls said, “We have recovered what we believe is the weapon that was used in yesterday’s shooting… We’re doing everything we can to find him, and we’re not sure how far he has gone yet, but we will, we will do our best."

Charlie Kirk was reportedly discussing mass shootings involving transgender individuals when he was shot. Federal agents are investigating whether his remarks or political views played a role in the motive.
