A high school in California was allegedly caught having sex with a 17-year-old student. This is the second incident in the school involving alleged sexual misconduct between a staff member and a student in recent years.
28-year-old Dulce Flores, a Spanish language teacher at Riverbank High School since 2016, who was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old male student in 2023.
Flores, who also worked as a beauty advisor according to her LinkedIn profile, was taken into custody at her residence this week and charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, DailyMail reported.
The Riverbank Police Department initiated their investigation after receiving a tip from a school official about the alleged relationship. This incident echoes a previous scandal that shook Riverbank High School in 2023. Former basketball coach Logan Nabors, then 23, faced allegations of engaging in sexual relations with a 16-year-old student between 2017 and 2018. Nabors was subsequently charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and oral copulation.
The Riverbank High School District has pledged full cooperation with law enforcement in the investigation involving Flores. In the meantime, she has been placed on leave. The district is working to minimize disruption to students in Flores’ classes and will communicate directly with parents and students regarding the situation.
Superintendent Constantio Aguilar released a statement expressing the district’s disappointment over the incident and emphasizing their commitment to addressing the matter swiftly and thoroughly. He acknowledged the unfortunate situation while affirming the district’s pursuit of appropriate actions independent of the law enforcement investigation. Aguilar underscored the high standards expected of staff at Riverbank High School.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office commended the school district for their prompt reporting and cooperation, which proved instrumental in piecing together the details of this sensitive case. Flores was booked into Stanislaus County Jail with bail set at USD 20,000. Her current inmate status and plea entry remain unclear at this time.
