Chicago Floods: As the Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flash Flood Warning for Chicago and surrounding areas—including central Cook County, southern DuPage County, and northeastern Will County—videos of the severe flooding began going viral online.
Several clips circulating on social media show people wading through knee-high water on city streets, highlighting the seriousness of the situation. One widely shared image posted on X (formerly Twitter) shows cars stranded on a waterlogged road as heavy rain continued to fall, underscoring the impact of the sudden downpour.

The NWS warned that the flooding poses a significant hazard, particularly in urban areas, streets, underpasses, small streams, and other low-lying or poorly drained regions.
Affected locations include Chicago, Cicero, Oak Lawn, Berwyn, Oak Park, Burbank, Bridgeview, Evergreen Park, Alsip, and the area near Chicago Midway Airport.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid flooded roads and exercise extreme caution, especially at night when it is more difficult to spot water-covered areas.
“A Flash Flood Warning means rapid-onset flooding is imminent or may already be occurring. Persons along creeks, drainage ditches, and other waterways should take immediate precautions to protect life and property," NWS Chicago stated in a post on X.
