Veteran actor Tristan Rogers, known for his legendary portrayal of General Hospital's Robert Scorpio, has been diagnosed with cancer. The 79-year-old revealed the news through his publicist, Anthony Turk, in a statement conveyed to news outlets.

The statement, reported by Soap Opera Digest, states, "Beloved Emmy-winning actor Tristan Rogers, most famous for playing Robert Scorpio on the daytime soap General Hospital, is telling fans that he has been diagnosed with cancer."

The actor is reportedly working closely with his doctors to determine the most suitable course of treatment.

The statement continued: “While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family. As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family.”

Rogers also took a moment to thank his fans. "Tristan sends love to his fans and wishes to thank them for their years of encouragement and loyalty. Their support matters to him more than ever before."

The release stated that more updates would be shared at the discretion of Rogers and his family.

As reported by Parade, Rogers initially joined the General Hospital in 1980 and became a fan favourite for decades. He appeared on the show for the last time in November 2023 when his character, Robert, departed the town along with Holly (played by Emma Samms). Apart from General Hospital, Rogers was also a guest on The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

He also appeared in Sean Kanan's online drama Studio City, where he took on the role of Doc. Colleagues and fans alike have sent their support and well wishes as Rogers starts his fight against cancer.
